I dunno folks. I’ve spoken to some folks and while there is no denying that Michael Phelps is an AMAZING swimmer, it isn’t really fair to say he’s the “greatest Olympian of all time.” The only other sport that comes anywhere close to allowing as many medals is gymnastics - and there’s only a maximum of 5 that one person could win, and they could probably only compete 2 times in their life, but really that’s very rare since now they need to be 16 to compete.
I kind of agree that whoever wins the Decathlon should be dubbed “The Greatest Olympian” of the games, because they’re competing in TEN separate sports/events…
I agree but I also disagree. The “Greatest Olympian of All Time” is simply stating that he has more medals than anyone else. And while swimming has plenty of opportunities to win several medals each year, Phelps is the first person to do it so obviously its not as easy as we may think or else there would be more people with over 20 medals.
